Who We Are

Dear Grandpa, It's Michael Produced by Tyrone Greenidge

Hi, I’m Canadian filmmaker Tyrone Greenidge, and I would like to introduce you to Michael and Karen Whitell's story. I had met Michael around the age of 4, and at that time Karen, her mother, and father, Michael’s grandparents, were giving him support and much-needed help. Michael had received a diagnosis of Autism at the early age of 2. Being told he may never talk, or amount to much, and with Karen being a single mother, things were beyond difficult. I do remember the journey with him, and Karen embracing it with unconditional love, never giving up on her son. She continued to let him try different things, giving him full support, and an opportunity to live his best life.

Our Mission

Its more than just a web series

Dear Grandpa, It's Michael is more than just a web series—it's a heartfelt initiative dedicated to changing perceptions and breaking down barriers for individuals on the autism spectrum.

Our team is a diverse group of creatives, nearly half of whom are on the autism spectrum themselves, bringing an authentic and deeply personal perspective to the project.

Led by producer Tyrone Greenridge and starring Michael Whitell, whose real-life journey of overcoming the odds inspired this series, our team is passionate about telling stories that matter. Michael's experiences, from being told he might never speak to achieving milestones like graduating from college and securing a job, are at the heart of our mission: to showcase the strength, independence, and capabilities of individuals with autism.

We believe in the power of storytelling to foster empathy and understanding, and we are committed to providing opportunities for underrepresented voices in the film industry. Our goal is not just to entertain, but to educate and inspire, creating a more inclusive world where everyone’s story can be heard.
